Position Description:
Chemonics seeks a team leader for the anticipated five-year, DFID-funded East and Southern Africa Staple Food Markets Program based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The program aims to improve the functionality of national and regional staple food market sys???tems and increase regional trade in foods to benefit male and female farmers, particularly poor farmers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, and Malawi. It will include a six-month inception phase, followed by a 4.5-year implementation phase. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate with DFID, other government entities, private sector organizations, civil society organizations, and other relevant parties to develop the inception report
Establish a program management unit as a resource center with in-depth knowledge of food staple market systems in Eastern and Southern Africa
Provide overall management of the program, ensuring that all deliverables are produced in a timely fashion and meet the client’s standards
Qualifications:
Master's degree in business, agribusiness, economics, or related subject preferred
Team leader/chief of party experience required; experience managing DFID programs preferred
Minimum eight years of experience managing large, complex donor-funded projects
Knowledge of staple food markets and trade/trade policy in East and Southern Africa preferred
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with senior government officials, foreign government organizations, development partners, and private sector entities?
Demonstrated experience establishing public-private partnerships, brokering relationships, and overseeing development funds related to staple foods trade
Experience applying the “making markets work for the poor” (M4P) approach
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including conceptualizing, outlining, performing, and directing the research and writing of work plans and technical documents
Experience working and/or living in Eastern or Southern Africa preferred
Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity
English fluency required; regional language proficiency preferred
